About the Author

Nazmul Siddique is a lecturer in the School of Computing and Intelligent Systems at the University of Ulster. He has published over 120 scientific research papers in journals and conferences including seven book chapters and two books. He is a senior member of the IEEE and has been involved in organising many international conferences. He is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Neural Systems, International Journal of Automation and Control Engineering, Journal of Behavioural Robotics, and Engineering Letters.

Hojjat Adeli is the holder of Abba G. Lichtenstein Professorship at The Ohio State University (OSU). He is the Editor-in-Chief of three journals: Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Integrated Computer-Aided Engineering, and International Journal of Neural Systems. He has authored over 500 publications including 14 books and has won numerous awards. He is a Distinguished Member of ASCE, a Fellow of AAAS and IEEE. In April 2010 he was profiled as an engineering legend in the journal Leadership and Management in Engineering.

Very informative text

Gail Gibbons' books are always informative and capture the readers' attention. This one did not disappoint. The students in grade 1 that I read the book to were engaged in the activity and responded to the story. They gained new information of snakes. This was a good book because it did not just provide information to the students that they already knew but expanded their knowledge. For example, the author does write that the snakes slither and have no legs, but she goes further and describes the different ways a snake moves.

My niece who is three loves snakes and nearly all children's literature portray snakes as either scary or in a negative way--as malevolent or evil. This provides information and is layered so it can be used over and over as she grows.
The drawings are very good and support getting information rather than pushing fear or dislike.

Pretty good

Probably good as a business school textbook. As for a practitioner seeking to gain introductory knowledge on the subject, it's not bad, but could be better.

PROS:
* Relatively basic (but in some ways, not introductory enough)
* Contains exercises at the end and a website where you can check your answers (if review is important to you)
* Each chapter stands alone; there is some repetition among the chapters (which I don't mind), so no need to cross-reference or look back or ahead at other sections

CONS:
* Not enough examples, graphics, boxes, exhibits, bullet lists, etc. The examples, graphics, etc., that it does contain should have more descriptions and step-by-step analyses (e.g., arrows) rather than the more general ("Column A shows what happens when...").
* There is a ton of new vocabulary, but the vocabulary terms are never bolded/italicized. In fact, nothing on the page stands out except for subsection headers.
* A lot of topics and terminology are glossed over and it assumed that the reader understands the subject matter. Such topics and terminology may be basic, but it is required for an introductory learner to gain knowledge about the subject.

CONCLUSION: The book has a lot of good materials but it is written and stylized in a rather bland way. There are no pictures. It would benefit from putting important vocabulary terms in bold and adding more info boxes, exhibits, graphics, etc.

Engaging and highly thorough textbook for any aspiring real estate professional.

I was enrolled in Professor Glickman's, the author of this book, challenging Real Estate Markets course at NYU-Stern school of business. I had studied plenty of pure finance before this however I had no exposure to Real Estate finance. From providing extensive descriptions of the types of real estate investment strategies and vehicles to useful problems and examples embedded in the text, I can honestly say that I left the course with a much deeper understanding of the real estate market and an interest in pursuing a career in the area. Furthermore, the book served as the perfect complement to the typical problem sets and assignments that a student of real estate finance might encounter. Beginning with the building blocks of real estate investing: accounting conventions, and progressing to increasing more complex topics, such as modeling residential and commercial mortgage-backed securities and structuring the waterfall of returns between general and limited partners, I will reiterate that this book is a must for any aspiring real estate professional!

Convection heat transfer made "streamlined"

With this book, Bejan makes convection heat transfer "streamlined". Powerful --yet simple and handy-- tools such as constructal theory, scale analysis, intersection of asymptotes method, heatlines, etc., are presented and used in the book to provide readers with a deep understanding of how and why things are happening the way they are. The author's viewpoint on the field is refreshing and original. This is the one book that I would recommend to graduate students interested in convection heat transfer.

Excellent complement to classic heat transfer texts

I never got around to buying this textbook, but I did borrow the 2nd edition of this text from my convection professor as I was studying for the ph.d. prelim exam this last Spring. I read through much of this book very thoroughly and developed some strong feelings on the quality of the text. I feel Professor Bejan, in writing this book, assumed the readers had some background in the subject (or were mathematically curious on their own to fill in many of the gaps he left). I say this because Prof. Bejan is often very brief in the derivation of equations and simply states in words what must be done to manipulate governing equations into the forms he presents. Though this may even be a pedagogical tool of his. Nothing proves his point better than having to go through the math on your own and matching what he's said will happen. Though getting stuck on some small mathematical simplification is very frustrating for someone new to the subject and for that reason alone, this book should almost necessarily be accompanied by with some other classical convection textbook (i.e. Burmeister's Convective Heat Transfer, 2nd Edition, Kays & Crawford's MP for Convective Heat & Mass Transfer, or even Incropera & Dewitt's Introduction to Heat Transfer).

But for what Prof. Bejan might be lacking in the derivations, he makes up for in stunningly clear insight and unbeatable discussions that he arrives at (often through his scaling treatments -- more than once during my prelim exam I found myself quoting the scaling analysis from his chapter on natural convection). Prof. Bejan has a unique philosophy on engineering mathematics and it is, like I've said already, a truly excellent complement to everything else I've read on the subject of convection heat transfer. I don't think this text is suitable for reference in an undergraduate class or for one who needs an introduction to the conservation laws. But any graduate student with a focus in heat transfer owes themselves to find a copy of this text and read through it.

Best self help/personal development cd-set ever!

I just spent two years of my life recovering from a burn out by listening every possible self help/self development tape I could get my hands into. Brian Tracy, Wayne Dyer, Paul McKenna, Doreen Virtue, The Secret -- you name it. Yes, even some Anthony Robbins.

I knew Michael Neill from the Hayhouse Radio ([...]) and have always loved his very practical, funny and smart advice. I bought his first book You Can Have What You Want right after it was published, but was too exhausted to read it (or anything else) at the time, so I gave it away to someone else who needed it more -- he loved it and got amazing results from it.

Back to this recording. When I heard Michael Neill had finally recorded an audio program about the same principles he talks about in his radio show and books, I ran (ok, drove) to the nearest bookstore and bought it.

It's amazing! No-nonsense, down to earth, yet exceptionally inspiring, thought provoking and touching. Even my husband, who dislikes almost every other author whose tapes I listen, loves this one. When we listen to Effortless Success together, we have to pause the recording basically every other minute to talk about all the ideas that Michael's simple truths provoke on us. How do we know they are true? Because they make us go "but of course!" "that is so true!" "I've always known that but somehow forgot it!"

Since we started to listen this recording couple of weeks ago (yes, we take our time to savor his wisdom), our energy levels have got higher than for years (or maybe ever) and we've both got very inspired, excited and productive. Most importantly, I was finally able to redefine my personal goals after my burn out and I'm happy to follow my inner bliss again.

I wish I would have been able to listen this already two years ago. I would have saved so much money and time and would be so much closer to my WOW-goals. Oh well. Better a little later than never.

UPDATE 4 MONTHS LATER:

OK, I can't give all the credit only to this audiobook, but I feel that it definitely helped us to get on the right track. Here's what has happened since listening this audiobook:

1. My husband sold his first screenplay and is now shooting the movie based on it. In the process he got a great new friend.

2. I quit my day job, went back to my old profession which I had quit after my burn out, visited my native country for the first time for 20 months and got THREE new super-exciting and inspiring projects (that's a lot in my profession!). I wake up happy every morning and am very excited about the future. Plus my finances seem to be finally back on the right track. Yay!

Let your learning be EFFORTLESS! Just relax and listen....

I highly recommend the CDs to be your companion wherever you go. If you want to have what you want in your life, buy these CDs NOW for yourself. After you finish with them, you will want to share them with family members, and even send them to others as gifts.

In one week, I listened to all 6 CDs, and as soon as I would finish one, I would be like a child on Christmas Eve waiting for tomorrow to discover what the next CD had to offer. The most amazing thing is that I continually found something new from the text and stories even in areas I was already familiar with and thought I had a good grasp on. I am curious to see what new nuggets of gold will be uncovered the next time I hear them. I have read two of his published books, (see my Amazon reviews), taken Coaching Mastery seminar by him, and received my NLP practitioner license from London (He was one of three trainers.) As a life coach, not only I, myself, practice his teachings, but also, I share them with my clients. So, before I listened to the CDs, I thought, "Well, I really understand what he is talking about..." WOW! I could not have been more surprised as I learned something deeper, beyond his words this time.

Michael Neill's trained actor's voice sets the tempo, and his enthusiasm and compassion lift up the language, and conveys a much deeper understanding than his talent alone. About the Author

Michael Bar-Zohar is a writer, public speaker, and former lawmaker. Author of many novels and nonfiction books, he was a member of the Knesset and envoy to the Council of Europe. A former adviser to General Moshe Dayan, Dr. Bar-Zohar has also served as a professor at Haifa University in Israel and at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He is one of Israel's foremost experts on espionage and the official biographer of David Ben-Gurion and Shimon Peres. He also wrote the biography of Isser Harel, the legendary Director of the Mossad, and co-authored The Quest for the Red Prince, which dealt with the bloody war between the Mossad and Black September. Bar-Zohar's books have been translated into eighteen languages.�

Nissim Mishal is one of the foremost TV personalities in Israel. After graduating with a master's degree in political science, he joined the staff of the Israeli state television and worked as a political reporter, Washington correspondent, and, finally, its director-general. At the fiftieth and sixtieth anniversaries of Israel, Mishal published two record-selling books about the great events in Israel's history. They were translated into English, French, Russian, and Spanish. He has also coauthored a book on two thousand years of Judaism with Professor Shlomo Ben-Ami, a former Israeli minister of foreign affairs.

An earlier version of this book was published in Israel in 2010 and broke record sales. This book highlights the greatest missions of the Mossad, as well as some of the most noteworthy failures that have tarnished the agency's image. Author Michael Bar-Zohar and Israel's foremost TV personality Nissim Mishal join forces to bring readers insightful accounts into the most dangerous operations for the sake of defense of Israel. This mesmerizing 400-page book is composed of twenty-one chapters: 1. King of Shadows, 2. Funerals in Tehran, 3. A Hanging in Baghdad, 4. A Soviet Mole and a Body at Sea, 5. "Oh, That? 1. A well-researched and well-written book that is accessible for the masses. It's based on a large variety of sources, books, articles, and interviews.
2. Fascinating topic. It doesn't get much more interesting than espionage at the highest level.
3. Excellent format, each chapter is about a particular operation. Most chapters begin with a tease and proceed to the heart of story and eventually take you back to the tease in progress. Code names for each operation are also provided.
4. A quote that reaches to the heart of this book, "To protect civilians, the state needs sometimes to do things that are contrary to democratic behavior. It is true that in units like ours the outer limits can become blurred. That's why you must be sure that your people are of the best quality. The dirtiest actions should be carried out by the most honest men".
5. The real-life stories presented in this book cover a wide-range of fascinating operations: from eliminating terrorist groups, destroying a Syrian nuclear reactor, eliminating Iranian scientists, providing protection and transfer of Jewish people, the capture of Adolf Eichmann, the thwarting of plots, the exposure of crimes, saving a child with national implications, and even acquiring a MiG-21...it's all here.
6. One of the best strengths of this book is the precise capturing of the Mossad leadership through the years. The authors do a wonderful job of describing the men and women behind these courageous operations and succinctly point out their major accomplishments and any shortcomings they may have had.
7. The politics behind espionage. Most apparent when things go wrong during an operation.
8. The planning behind some of these operations is of interest. So many layers involved in order to execute an operation. Everyone has a role and it has to be accomplished within a degree of precision otherwise the operation can unravel.
9. One of the boldest spies ever, Elie Cohen. One of my favorite chapters.
10. Unusual ties and relationships forged for desired results. As an example, the Mossad and the Moroccan secret service. Double agents.
11. Missions involving the capture of Nazis are always gripping such as Eichmann and "The Butcher of Riga".
12. The elimination of the organization "Black September" involved with the massacre of the Israeli athletes is one of the most riveting chapters I've ever read.
13. The retrieval of young Jews and Jewesses from Syria.
14. Who was the Angel? Find out.
15. The incidents that embarrassed the Mossad. The Fiasco in Amman is just astonishing...the things that can go wrong.
16. How priceless information turned into Syria's top-secret nuclear program.
17. The operation involving "The terrorist with nine lives".
18. The emotional retrieval of the Ethiopian Jews.
19. Excellent Bibliography and Sources.

Negatives:
1. Visual aids would have added immense value to this book. Timeline charts depicting the Mossad leadership and how it relates to the operations would have been helpful.
2. A photo insert section is included but I would have preferred the photos be inserted in the chapters that they belong in.
3. A chapter on espionage gadgets would have been welcomed.
4. A cast of characters per operation would have been very helpful.
5. The Kindle version did not take advantage of its ability to link notes and sources.
6. An appendix with a table of operations with code names would have added value.

In summary, this is a fascinating and topical book. Some of the operations read like a good spy novel, this is truly a riveting book. There are so many interesting operations, so many interesting personalities...it's espionage at the highest level. My only negative of the book is the lack of illustrations or diagrams that could have added value. That being said, this is an excellent book on the history the greatest missions of the Mossad. I highly recommend it!

Fast Paced and Fas�ci�nat�ing

Mossad: The Great�est Mis�sions of the Israeli Secret Ser�vice by Michael Bar-Zohar and Nis�sim Mishal is a non-fictionbook by Israeli jour�nal�ists Michael Bar-Zohar and Nis�sim Mishal. The book recounts some of the great suc�cesses and fail�ures of the secret Israeli agency.

The book is divided into twenty two dis�tinct chap�ters, each one a story of its own. The oper�a�tions range from the com�plex assas�si�na�tions of Syr�ian gen�eral Muham�mad Suleiman, find�ing and assas�si�nat�ing rogue sci�en�tist Ger�ald Bull(he was devel�op�ing a super�gun for Sad�dam Hus�sein), the kid�nap�ping Nazi Adolf Eich�mann in Argentina and lur�ing Mordechai Vanunu out of Eng�land into Rome as to not suf�fer the wrath of Thatcher.

Even oper�a�tions which seem mun�dane, such as smug�gling out of the Soviet Union of Nikita Khrushchev's secret speech, or sneak�ing across the bor�der Jew�ish Syr�ian women (the Syr�ian brides) gets an air of rev�er�ence and com�plex�ity. Other chap�ters include a run down of the years Israel's great�est spy, Eli Cohen, spent in Syria as well as bring�ing the Jews of Ethiopia to Israel.

The chap�ter about the elim�i�na�tion of Black September's lead�er�ship does not fail to men�tion the inno�cent Moroc�can waiter, whose only crime was resem�bling Ali Has�san Salameh, one of the Mossad's tar�get. One of the biggest fail�ures of the Mossad that we know of.

I am famil�iar with Pro�fes�sor Bar-Zohar's writ�ings, he is a lead�ing Israeli writer on espi�onage. As most of his books, Mossad is also a fast paced, fas�ci�nat�ing look behind thick cur�tains which have been pre�vi�ously closed. The authors' analy�sis and insight are mes�mer�iz�ing and usu�ally spot on, while the new infor�ma�tion they present, infor�ma�tion that just recently has been uncen�sored, is sim�ply amazing.

One of the most intrigu�ing aspects of the book is not the spec�tac�u�lar suc�cesses, but the equally spec�tac�u�lar fail�ures. Some of these fail�ures are so aston�ish�ing one has to look at the cover to make sure the book is about the Mossad and not the key�stone cops. After�wards pound�ing ones head - "what were they think�ing".

Author Michael Bar-Zohar said that this is due to "The feel�ing is that we are the best in the world, and there�fore a sense of Israeli ama�teur�ish�ness some�times creeps into the sys�tem. This means they send peo�ple who are not as sea�soned as they should be and they trust that they will not be caught and iden�ti�fied."

That being said, the Mossad cer�tainly has an extra�or�di�nary achieve�ment record. That record though, cou�pled with clas�sic Israeli self-assurance and over�con�fi�dence, can eas�ily get smirched.

I finished book, Mossad: The Greatest Missions of the Israeli Secret Service, and found it an excellent read, riveting. I read through it quickly as I found it difficult to it down. The book is one of the best non fiction historical books that I have read. I would recommend it for anyone who would like to know more about the state of Israel and middle eastern politics from an honest perspective.

Super helpful!

I do recommend this book because it is great if you do not have too many hours to devote to the test. It goes straight to the speaking points you need to know to do well in the test. The 240 Speaking topics definitely are a major help.
I was very happy to see the results. I got a total of 109 from 120 with the least of reading at 24/30. Highly advised to study from this book but if you want a score of 26 or higher in reading you need to have a high knowledge of a lot of vocabulary as many of the toefl exams include hard vocabulary. Overall, a great help and a useful read. I highly recommend getting this book it’s pretty cheap and super helpful.

You will no longer be bowled over by simple questions

Have you ever had a problem holding a conversation with someone else? Many people have that problem, from rich to poor. This book helps you to know what you can say when people ask you certain questions. For example, if you are which country you would like to visit, there are sample answers that you can adapt to help you keep the conversation going. It is superbly simple to read and understand the book. I must say that the author put a lot of research into the book.

All I am going to say is that everybody should read the book. The sample answers to each question will make it easier for you to know what to say when asked questions in a conversation.

It was a great book and I learned a lot.

This book offers succinct and accurate pointers on how to deliver a high scoring speaking sample on any English proficiency test. Each questions is accompanied by a number of exercises that are aimed at honing a student's use of expressions a spoken grammatical accuracy. This dexterous aide was precisely what I was searching for! The writer went well beyond when it came down to clarifying the diverse perspectives with selecting a point and composing a discourse.
