This book is a rare and honest story of a real life professional couple and the lessons they have learned after getting clear with themselves and each other about their money beliefs. They write candidly and with a sense of humor the techniques they have used to create a stronger and richer relationship with each other and with money. My husband and I are most grateful they are sharing their struggles and victories with the rest of us. We found two pennies on the ground today and giggled when we heard the clinking sound they made after we dropped them into our own big glass change jar! Amazing...the book is already helping us make our financial shift together!

Excellent sourcebook for readers

This book, originally loaned to me by a police professional, is an excellent resource for a variety of readers who are involved with criminal investigations but don't really have all the tools and training of a full-time medical examiner. In my case, as a crime author, the text was an invaluable reference, putting some highly technical material into easily digested context. The collection of photographs, while occasionally grisly, provides an excellent visual reference. Recommended for laymen of all kinds who need a good reference work on forensic pathology.

Good reference

If your idea of forensics is CSI on television, this book is not for you. If you are studying forensic science, or need an excellent reference book, by all means - buy it. This book gives one a strong foundation, and the photographs are an excellent source of information, of which to look at after reading the descriptions.

The second edition is a definite improvment over the first.If you are looking for a chapter on gunshot wounds, it is not here. However, DiMaio has written the standard on evaluating gunshot wounds: Gunshot Wounds: Practical Aspects of Firearms, Ballistics, and Forensic Techniques.

Wonderful Textbook Style Book

This book didn't beat around the bush at all. It took you right into the morbid details of death. Every subject I can think of regarding death was explained in this book. The pictures were mostly black and white but the detail in them was still enough to stir my stomach.
This book went from babies to burns, from rapes to stabbings, from gunshots to suffocation. It told you how things were done and why evidence was placed the way that it was.
This book was in textbook form and I believe that it is actually used for students to learn with. In saying that, you can not only learn with this book but you can also keep yourself interested with having some death questions answered.
Overall, a wonderful book for someone looking to get into the forensic field, or for someone just interested in death and how some things happen.

Real page turner

This book, contrary to the title, is not all about Mayer and her fight to save Yahoo. It is instead a history of Yahoo, the many board room drama’s it has faced, the near misses and numerous hits. There is a number of chapters focusing on Mayer at Google and how she rose up through the ranks there.

The book is fast paced and well written, taking the reader through each episode of Yahoo’s beleaguered history. I read this book, 341 pages, in one night, failing to put it down as each chapter kept my interest and excitement at how things were panning out. I knew of Yahoo’s many failures (attempt to buy Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc) but what I didn’t know was the real story behind those. Fascinating.

What was fascinating for me to learn was just how many CEO’s Yahoo went through that never knew technology - one never even used email! This was ultimately the failure that lead Yahoo to be where it is today; two founders that never had the business ambition of Page/Brin. Got the sense they were never really that passionate about the business.

Yahoo created the very industry that made it irrelevant. Netscape, an early pioneer under Jim Clark/Marc Andreessen, had the decency to call it a day and realize it was no longer in the game. Yahoo suffers the same fate, however, management have checked out, but HR haven’t been told so the payroll continues.

The sheer size of the company was staggering to learn, the amount of projects (400+) it was supporting, all with their own infrastructure and languages. There was no standard. No unifying business strategy. An example was Yahoo Photos competed with Flickr (an acquisition Yahoo made) for many years.

The only reason that Yahoo is still in the game today, is due to a $1B investment it made in Alibaba (the chinese online marketplace company) a number of years ago. This has resulted in Yahoo’s stock to be in excess of $37B. This is a good problem to have, however Yahoo’s stock is trading high not because of what it is doing back at home, but how it’s investment in Alibaba is doing.

The book is unfinished. Mayer is only just getting started in Yahoo and while it is easy to quickly snap to judgement I believe there is more to come on the Yahoo story.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in business, the internet, and/or leadership profiles

This book has it all. It's a fascinating history of the internet and a company that practically started it all, only to be left behind by more innovative competitors. It's a behind the scenes look at gritty corporate infighting. And it's an intimate portrait of a clearly brilliant, but also deeply flawed CEO.

The author has woven all these pieces together into an exciting and highly readable narrative. I'm generally a very slow reader, but I was so captivated by this story that I read the entire thing in two days. There is enough "fly on the wall" detail to make you think you're there for some interesting and sometimes downright bizarre situations (Mayer riding a Zamboni while wearing pajamas at a Christmas party!), which makes you not want to put the book down.

Ultimately, what I loved most about the book, is the way it doesn't just set out to blame Mayer for failing to turn Yahoo around, nor does it unduly praise her and simply write off the situation as hopeless for even the best executive. Rather, the book is a highly nuanced portrait that allows the reader to make their own judgements about whether Mayer, despite her obvious flaws, is the right choice for the job.

It's sadly rare that a technical text book is written well, however in the case of this publication, my daughter, who studies computer science at university, actually hugged this book stating her love for how well the author articulates concepts in a clear, concise way, not leaving out blocks of information as some many others do. For that, I give them a bow and a big five stars.

I am going to seriously miss Alex and Angel. They have to be one of my all time favorite book couples. I LOVED them from the very first book (Angel After Dark) to the last book (Promises After Dark). If you like a book/series that has everything…then this is the series you NEED to pick up and read.

This is the third book in the series, but just like the other two, it has everything you want in a book. We got love and romance, HOT sexy scenes, and suspense and intrigue. I was happy to see that we really didn't have heartbreak in this book when it came to Angel and Alex. I loved how they worked everything out together :) This book will be hard for you to put down. I know my stomach was in my throat and my heart was in my stomach for a good part of this book. There were some unanswered things after book two (Confessions After Dark) but rest assured everything is answered and put to rest in this book. I am not going to say much about the plot of this book, because I really think it would spoil both book two and three. Just know that this book takes off right where book 2 ended. There is no time lost.

Again, as was the same in book 1 and 2, the writing was flawless. Kahlen created a story that sucked you in and didn't let go until the very end. You can't turn the pages fast enough when it comes to this book. The only reason I didn't give this a full 5 stars like the other two books, was because I thought the beginning was a little slow and that there was some over detailing. I think some things could've been cut out to shorten the book and nothing would've been lost or missing. But that didn't deter me from fully enjoying this book/series. This is definitely one that I will read again and again and has a place on my favorites shelf at home :)

I will say that this book was NOT an easy journey for Alex and Angel. They had some serious things to overcome in this book. Both needed to learn to trust each other and believe in each others love. They truly were tested in this book, but like I said I am glad they got through it all together!!!! I was extremely happy to see that Angel was back to the character I liked in book 1….I felt she lost herself a little in book 2 and was a little too whiny, but thankfully she wasn't like that in this book. Alex was his normal dreamy self but even better….if that's possible!!!! I was glad we got to see more of Cole (Alex's brother) and Becca and Jillian (Angel's BFF and Becca's daughter) I even think that Kahlen hinted at something happening between Becca and Cole….maybe there will be a spinoff for these two characters. I think their story would be great :)

Again I would recommend this book to everyone who has read book 1 ( Angel After Dark ) and book 2 (Confessions After Dark), and is also a fan of Kahlen Aymes. Heck even if you aren't a fan or have never heard of her before….. READ THIS SERIES!!!!!
You definitely want to meet Angel and Alex and follow them on their wonderful journey to happiness!!!

I cannot say enough about Kahlen Aymes and her crazy, talented writing that she does! I have loved this series since first being introduced to Alex and Angel when book 1 came out. Kahlen has done it again with Promises. I literally could not stop reading. I just kept thinking, "One more chapter" but I just couldn't find a stopping place. Angel isn't a mousy doormat but a successful doctor, sassy and takes no crap kind of woman. Alex is uber male and possessive of his woman. Their sexual chemistry is out of this world and the bedroom scenes are whew! Hot! I love the suspense in the story of this psychopath that is after Angel. Not to give any spoilers but there is a situation that literally had me feeling the fear and anxiousness of the characters in the book. That my friend, is what you call fantastic writing!!! I will buy anything that Kahlen writes because she is just that good! Superb wrap up of the series. I am hoping she will write Cole and Becca's story. It would also give us little glimpses of Alex and Angel's lives through Cole and Becca's story but I am just really interested in where their story could go. Please Kahlen, write theirs! Jillybean deserves a great love story for her Mommy! Don't hesitate to one click this book. You are CRAZY if you don't. Do not miss out on this amazing, hot, sexy, suspenseful series. Amazing conclusion, to an amazing series!!

Promises After Dark is the third book in the After Dark series, and WOW did this conclusion really go out with a bang!! I have loved following Angel and Alex's passionate, fiery, relationship through this series. Angel has a strong, almost alpha male, take no crap personality and Alex's caveman, hot headed personality wrapped up in a sex god of a man, that would make any woman's ovaries explode with one quick glance. Put Alex and Angel together and it's like fireworks going off in all directions.

This book took me on one roller coaster of emotions. There were many a time the twist and turns in this book took my breath away while holding it in the next with the suspense and plot twists. There is so much that is going on in this story, I could not stop turning the pages wanting to know what was going to happen next. Kahlen really has a great writing style that grips you tight, makes you fall in love with the characters, plot lines that are well developed, bedroom scenes that will leave you wanting to leave the room to cool yourself down, but then rushing back to indulge in some more. If you thought Alex was hot before, he just turned it up a notch in this last instalment and has gone all out for us ladies, and boy what a finale.

I found myself so engrossed in this story I was frantically trying to get to the end to find out if Alex and Angel got their HEA because jeez, if one couple deserved it, it was them.I mean how much can a couple take? But that just made me love them both even more. The risks they took, the never giving up on their friends and each other. Each obstacle that got in their way, every spanner that got thrown in their direction just made them more stronger and determined to be together and make sure everyone was safe.

That just leaves me to say Kahlen Aymes has done it again. Another amazing series that deserves 5 stars from me. I am also hoping Cole and Becca get a story of their own as I could do with another hot Avery brother to spend some time with to help get me over my Alex withdrawals.
I recommend The After Dark Series to anyone who adores Kahlen's books as much as I do or, if your looking for a sexy, romantic read with added thrills, suspense and a great story line running through it, this is the series for you.

About the Author

I pursued my undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois. I had planned to study nuclear physics, but when I discovered in an introductory psychology course that psychology was really a science, I decided that was what I wanted to do. Before changing my major, I talked with several professors and visited their laboratories, and when I saw what physiological psychologists do, I knew that I had found my niche. I stayed on at Illinois and received my Ph.D. Then, after a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Iowa, I came to the University of Massachusetts, where I’ve been ever since.

When I arrived at UMass I established a laboratory where I investigated the role of the limbic system in species-typical and learned behaviors, continuing work I had done at the University of Illinois. I received several Biomedical Research Support Grants and a research grant from NICHD. As I became more involved in textbook writing, I began to focus my attention more and more on this activity and on my teaching.

I took the opportunity afforded by my first sabbatical leave to write the first edition of Physiology of Behavior. I very much enjoyed the experience, and this endeavor taught me much more about behavioral neuroscience. I was gratified with the positive response of my students and of the colleagues who adopted the book. The pleasure provided by this response and by the enjoyment of keeping up with the literature and writing about it has kept me going for 11 editions. (I have no plans to stop writing.)

I retired from UMass in the fall of 2004 but continue to keep up with developments in the field of behavioral neuroscience and revise my book. The Psychology Department has kindly let me keep an office at the university, which makes it easier for me to continue interacting with my former colleagues.

My interests outside of writing include spending time with our family, traveling, fly fishing, skiing, and flying our small airplane."

Well balanced and easy to read

This book had, in my opinion, just the right amount of information: the chapters were not too long or overloaded with unnecessary details, but each topic was covered fairly in- depth, and throughout confusing or particularly interesting concepts were highlighted with extra information. This book is a really nice foundation for an introductory behavioral neuroscience course; I still refer to it from time to time. The writing style is easy to read and the case files associated with each chapter add interest. This was one of my favorite textbooks.

MyPsychKit access often isn't available from the publisher right after a new edition is released; sometimes you have to wait for it to become available. Amazon has updated the book's description page to reflect that now, however, so I am giving the book five stars.

Just Great.

Giving this textbook 5 stars because I used this thing more then any other college book during my 4 years of college. This book was required for a intro to neuroscience course I was taking. During the time I was taking this class I was taking 18 credit hours and this was the hardest course out of all 5 classes I was taking. And to make it worse, I was taking it online. But yeah, the book was very helpful with the course even thought everything we were tested/quizzed on in that class was based on the professors online lecture videos.

Well-written, interesting textbook

This textbook was great! The author has somehow found a way to take a semi-boring subject (in my opinion), and made it extremely interesting to read. The content is well-organized, very informative, and even humorous at times. This was a great read, and one of the better textbooks I've had to buy during college.

Good book on MM

If either you are someone who is starting using mathematical morphology in image processing applications or you are an expert in these subjects this book will be an interesting way to learn more about non linear image processing.

I've recently bought this book, in may 2010, and I cannot stop reading it.

Finally, obvious. I recommend this book.
