Why read the recent reviews? I'll explain in a sec. But first, my comments.

I am a Michael Port fan and feel that Book Yourself Solid was a truly excellent book. And I think that this book, The Think Big , is pretty bad. The name itself is misleading as the book is a shamble, a ramble and rant, all packaged up as if it actually makes some sense. Probably the worst part, IMO, is the first thirty-something largely self-indulgent and incoherent pages where he just goes on and on about injustices in the world and the pending revolution that we need: "...There's a war on. There's some heavy environmental stress that's coming to a boil, so to speak. There's too much poverty. There are children who cannot read...." As if this is news, a crisis or in fact, something that has not been the case for millennia. In fact, most of the things that he cites as precipitators of the need for the (including slavery in the US) are things that have improved radically within the last 20-50 years. The book is not about these things, nor is it really about you changing the world or your life.

The title includes the word Manifesto, which I think is an inappropriate use of that word and very misleading. Our US Declaration of Independence is a manifesto. It starts with a clear statement of conditions and principles, and then outlines a specific course of actions. Generally a manifesto combines these actions in a new way, or comes up with some new actions. Jason Fried's book, Rework, which I am not crazy about, at least adheres to this model. The Think Big literally closes with platitudes that are either obvious or just plain silly. That final section includes him letting the readers know that "I love you very much (but not in a weird way)...." If only both parts of that statement could be true.

And the ratings? Look closely and you'll notice that all of the recent reviews tend toward the very negative. And if you look at the early reviews, most of them are ridiculously fan-boy positive. How could that happen? Those familiar with social media marketing will understand how to interpret that. And I'll take a sec here to recommend a very fine manifesto that you can read (largely) for free, The Cluetrain Manifesto. Google it.

If you need one last confirmation of how bad the book is, check out the prices on Amazon. All of Michael's other books have a "floor" price (used condition, typically a paperback) of about $5-8. I bought this book (brand new, hardback) for $1.56 from Amazon. Amazon shipped it for free. The market has spoken.

I'm a huge fan of any message that encourages people to step out and be bold enough to passionately pursue their purpose. Michael Port's most recent book, The Think Big Manifesto, is a pep talk in book form that inspires you to dig deep and connect with what you stand for. Full of examples, memorable quotes, and thought provoking ideas, here are the highlights of this small book with a big message:

Think Big delivers ... Big

To the reviewers that said this book does little more than repeat the title incessantly, I respectfully have to disagree whole heartedly and question if they read the same book as I.

The term Think Big IS repeated many times in the book - but as a mantra to reinforce the authors deeper intended message. It is written in an enjoyable and straightforward manner that makes it a good and fast read. It is for that very reason I am perplexed that so many failed to comprehend the message. I found it to be thought provoking and truly inspiring. The author invites you to join his web site and, surprise, it is free. I found this book to be ignition to the kindled fire.

If you are someone that likes this genre in general I believe you will greatly enjoy Think Big.

multiple angles

This book is a collection of essays and primamry documents with some notes from the editor. Each chater is around 30-40 pages and it is a good amount of info per subject on more generally unknown histories in America. It can be a little dull at times, but there is alot of great information on generally unknown American history and the style of presentation is very academic.

Great textbook, the major problems series should be used more often!

I took a Colonial History class at my college this semester and this was the assigned reading. It was so refreshing to get to work with primary documents for once, as all other textbooks I'd ever used only had a splattershot of secondary resources. Each chapter is divided into two sections, one with primary resources including letters, newspaper publications and speeches and the other with essays by leading scholars in their field. The readings are long; however, they are extremely diversified from tedious readings like William Penn's plan for Philadelphia to extremely humorous readings like a Maryland traveler who encounters a drunkard named Captain Scrotum in a Philadelphia tavern.

Lost in Space....

Continued from Morbus Gravis I, Druuna meets the ancient "Lewis" and learns the secrets of the "city" and the "upper level". Alerted to the threat of impending danger, Druuna returns to the city she knows, guided my Lewis, where she is entailed once again in a web of lust and danger. As the city moves and shifts around her, will Druuna ever be able to reach her goal or contact Lewis again? Can she face and escape the "lower levels"?
Once again, Serpieri creates a fantastic story that more-or-less closes the arc begun in Morbus Gravis I. His artwork continues to get better. We meet many new characters as well as revisit important ones from Morbus I, anyone interested in "Druuna", should get these two great volumes.

Fair adventure, fairer ladies

What's good about this book is quite good. The heroine, Druuna, is on a quest she doesn't understand, across a shattered cityscape filled with vigilante bands and diseased mutants. Except for one other female character that we lose early on, Druuna is about the only character that looks human, let alone beautiful. But Serpierie makes the most of that beauty, as her wardrobe gradually leaves her throughout the book.

This book is one of the inner chapters in a series that started and finished elsewhere. Although it stands by itself, neither explanation nor resolution are very strong. There are a few sex scenes, but most of them don't treat the lady gently at all - with one pleasant exception involving between her and her spirit guide, that part of the book is not to my taste. Still, it's fair adventure with gorgeous babe in the lead role, so it has at least a little going for it.

The Worst In the Series

Druuna has always been a record breaking series, proving that erotic fiction does not have to be plotless or just for men. With the first book, Morbus Gravis, the author presented this idea - which is why it's so beyond me that he wrote this sequel the way he did. Still, though a little light on plot and a little heavy on S&M, there are some developments, and some extremely memorable moments. If you miss this one, I wouldn't sweat it; it's not crucial to what is otherwise a fantastic and ground-breaking series. This book is good, but not great; if you're looking for great, check out the third and fourth books in this series, Creatura and Carnivora. For some "light" fun, get this one.

A very well-written introduction

Jack Moran's book is an excellent introduction to the field of aerodynamics. It is written in an appealing lecture-like style which involves the reader. The explanations are clear. Moran has the ability to explain difficult concepts in an easy to understand way that enhances the reader's understanding of the underlying physics.
The book covers a variety of topics, ranging from potential flows to supersonic flows and turbulence. The physical and mathematical modelling are clearly presented. Very Good Introductory Book

This is one of the most easy and complete introductory-level books on aerodynamics. It covers all you need, not at a great detail like ,say, kuethe does in his book, but it is a very interesting book since it contains even FORTRAN77 codes. Actually, F77 is a pretty old language, but all the codes contained in this book are easy, so that you can easily translate them in your favorite programming language. The book contains the fundamental aspects of fluid dynamics, inviscid flows, doublets, etc. An extensive overview of the panel method is given, togetherg with other computational means for analyzing inviscid flows. Finite Difference methods and Boundary layers are treated as well, both from a theoretical and computational point of view.

I would definitely recommend it.

An Excellent Aerodynamics Textbook

This book offers a very readable, interesting and up-to-date overview of aerodynamics. It is well written and well organised with clear explanations. The book is suitable for college students. It is also a fantastic tool for those who wish to teach themselves aerodynamics and have the background in physics and mathematics to handle it.

Major topics include a review of basic fluid dynamics, computational fluid dynamics, incompressible irrotational flow, inviscid flow, wings of finite span, the Navier-Stokes Equations, supersonic aerodynamics, boundary layer theory, panel methods and finite difference methods.

Overally, an excellent book that is well worth having.

A comprehensive account of Keynes' precocious early life.

Robert Skidelsky provides a punctilious account of the most influential economist of the 20th century and the intellectual and social milieu's that shaped him. Keynes is easily the most recognizable name in 20th century economics, followed somewhat closely by John Kenneth Galbraith and Milton Friedman.
In the book's preface, Skidelsky claims he was the first biographer to attempt to go into detail about Keynes' hitherto undiscussed homosexual relationships. The most notable and emotionally involved of these affairs occured with painter and fellow Bloomsbury member Duncan Grant. Skidelsky confirms that Keynes also slept with Bloomsbury biographer Lytton Strachey. Several corresponding letters between Keynes and Strachey not only confirm this, but a subsequent sexual rivalry over the affections of Grant. G.E. Moore's 'Principia Ethica' unquestionably wrought out a strong influence on Keynes and Strachey's radical sexual attitudes after they had read it. Some unfastidious anti-Keynesians have tried to tie in Keynes' early predispositions to homosexuality (he later in life married a Russian Ballet dancer named Lydia Lopokova) with his rejection of the gold standard. This probably isn't a valid argument, given the level of abstraction Keynes' mind reached at an early age to develop and entertain such unorthadox methods.
Keynesian economics has been repudiated by many laissez-faire proponents over the past two decades. The most well reasoned of these critiques have come from Friedman and Robert Lucas; who have each received Nobel Prizes for their work. Notwithstanding, both pale in comparison with the impact Keynesianism has had on post-WW2 macroeconomics.
Whether or not you're an unyeilding Keynesian or a free market capitalist, you'll find it impossible not to marvel at this remarkable biography of a remarkable man. Keynes should be included at the top of anyone's list of the 20th century's most important intellectuals.

Dazzling subject. Brilliant biography

Somebody, probably in The Economist, once wondered why Keynes had not achieved the cult status of a Freud or Einstein. This book will just let those people inclined to wonder so sink even deeper in contempt for posterity, cause Keynes had it all, the intellectual power, the social brilliance (and a decidedly wicked private life in the Bloomsbury circles), and the conscience of a mission to be accomplished, quite simply to save civilisation...
Skidelsky's talent as a biographer is beyond praise.

A would-be philosopher turned economist

John Maynard Keynes' life faithfully portrayed by Robert Skidelsky, is a life of a man grown up amidst the intelectual aristocracy of his time, which coincided with the beginning of the downfall of the Victorian age and was to culminate in the First World War. His father John Neville Keynes was a famous economist of his time and had many other intelectual atributes which he didn't want to put up to test in the academic arena, despite a lot of incentives by the famous economist Alfred Marshall, the most proeminent thinker of the neo-classics school of thought. Neville Keynes was determined instead to follow closely and have influence upon the professional careers of his most inteligent son. To anyone who whished to compare this situation to the education the philosopher James Mill gave to his son John Stuart Mill, I would warn he/she to be cautious cause the result is very much different than could be foresaw.
What the book shows is the fascinating formative years of one of the most influential men of all times, who had a strong appetite for getting all the knowledge he could get and who didn't hide behind his geniality. Quite to the contrary, Keynes was up for everything he could grab, be it different sexual male partners, a lot of trips to Italy and a lot of academic prizes, estimulated by the spirit of competion his father tried to assert on him, at the end to no avail. Also, the pace of his intelectual output is outstanding, being Keynes almost always pushed to the limit to do a lot of different things at the same time.
Some crude aspects of Keynes sexual life are also all there via the transcriptions of the many letters he exchanged with his male lovers and friends of the many different intelectual cycles he was part of.
His education at the noblest institutions in England (Eton and Cambridge)where he got the opportunity to intermingle with the likes of Bertrand Russell, Virginia Wolf, Whitehead and the philosopher Moore, the latter certainly the most fundamental influence he had in these formative years, provided the social and intelectual backgrounds needed to awake the geniality of the most brilliant economist of the last century.

If you are trying to find the definition for a ...

If you are trying to find the definition for a "new" word, coined in the last ten years, you will not find it. If you are looking up a definition for ; "texting", "bluetooth","millenial" or "affluenza", this is not the book for you. If you are looking for a reference containing spelling, pronunciation and definitions for the English language, you have found it.

Printer REQUIRED for exchange! Be sure its exactly what you're looking for or you have a printer.

This dictionary is way smaller than expected. Even the words are tiny, I found it quite difficult to read. Also because of the size the book will not hold its own page open. Having the ability to set it down while refrencing a word without losing the page is a big deal. So, I thought, it's fine Ill send it back and exchange it for the right one....We'll turns out I cant. I do not own a printer to print a return lable. I was given no other option. So, now I'm stuck with a dictionary I'll never have a use for. Yet here I am looking for a functional dictionary once again and I'm out money I shouldnt be.

It Works

Been using this dictionary for about a week, I have always been able to find the words I am looking for thus far. The print is somewhat small, but about what you would expect from a "pocket sized" dictionary.

Mine came with what seems to be some sort of misprint on the entry for the word 'fate', but besides that, so far so good.
