Frustrating and convoluted text coupled with terrible layout and design.

Difficult to read., I found this textbook to be exasperating, difficult to follow, and poorly laid out. It made a mathematical and logical topic extremely hard to understand. The author dives into explanations, confusing the student, only to offer simple explanations in later chapters. It is as though he believes that one must walk through fire in order to understand a topic. Also, examples are constantly on different pages than the page from which they are cited. So, expect constant page flipping. I found this book to be frustrating.

This text book is massive and it wouldn't bother me except that it doesn't need to be so big. It looks like it was formatted for 8x11 sheets of paper in word and no one optimized the book for print format. We are using the labs that go with the book extensively and some of those contain obvious errors. The lab also seems to vary between ultra simplistic (explaining how to click and drag with a mouse) to skipping a few steps hoping that you catch on. The book itself is decent but I have used better books for database courses in the past. One plus is that the book explains how to use both Oracle and Access so you get a feel for two different platforms at the same time.

I used this book as it is the required textbook in my entry level MS ITM course. Well, I think it explains the concepts clearly and good for my class purpose so far.
